Energy Security for the Palestinian Territories
Building the first consumer solar energy company in Palestine to provide widespread, affordable energy independence
Two million Gazans live under an unprecedented electricity crisis. Their energy grid limits access to less than four hours daily. Frequent daylong outages occur without notice.
Lapses in electricity have devastating consequences for every sector of the economy. Health care, education, water and sanitation, and agriculture all suffer. Securing energy independence helps ensure basic goods and services across the Gaza Strip. Energy serves a critical role in placating political tensions in the region.
Collaborations in this environment demand extreme resourcefulness and political creativity. We discovered such a partner in SunBox. SunBox is a low cost, self-installable, off-grid solar energy kit. Each kit supplies 1kW/day to meet critical energy needs for Gazans.
OutBrave spearheaded SunBox’s business development and growth. We advised partnerships with the World Bank and launched in Japan, Turkey, and across MENA. Our crowdfunding campaign raised at a rate of over USD $50,000 per week. This momentum meant an overwhelming demand that surpassed our ability to manufacture kits. Every shipment sold out in under 2 days, and annual sales exceeded USD $400,000 within 18 months since our launch.
SunBox CEO Majd Mashharawi may describe us as, "the most creative team she has ever met."
